Born in Italy in 1982, Francesco Ivan Ciampa has a degree in orchestral conducting at the Conservatory of Music “Santa Cecilia” in Rome, in Composition and band instrumentation at the Conservatory of Music “D. Cimarosa ” in Avellino, where he also followed courses of Flute and Piano. He also has a degree in Conservation and Cultural Heritage. He furthered his studies in conducting at major Academies and Music Schools of National and International Conductors such as Carlo Maria Giulini, Bruno Aprea, Joachin Achuccarro, Horacio Gutierrez, Gianandrea Noseda, Gabriele Ferro, Jorma Panula, Piotr Vandilovsky and Gianluigi Gelmetti.
Numerous awards including the first “National Arts Award 2010/2011 edition – section Conducting” held in L’Aquila with the Orchestra Sinfonica Abruzzese and the First prize in the National Competition for Conducting bandit by MIUR in collaboration with the Vicariate of Rome, where he conducted the ‘Orchestra of the Italian Conservatories in Christmas Concert in honor of Papa Benedetto XVI, performing Schubert’s Symphony No. 8 broadcast live worldwide telecast by CTV, Vatican Radio Sat2000 and the beautiful frame of the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore in Rome (Recording Audio and Video Concert – Vatican Archives, 2005).
Since 2007 he is Professor of Theory, Solfeggio and Musical Dictation at the “Nicholas Hall” of Benevento. In 2009 he founded the “Laboratorio Lirico / Orchestral – Benevento” with the staging of works such as PRIMA LA MUSICA E POI LE PAROLE of A. Salieri within “Benevento Città Spettacolo 2009”, L’ITALIANA IN LONDRA of D. Cimarosa at the Theatre of Benevento and at the Teatro Bibiena of Mantua, by which he was awarded the International Prize “Domenico Cimarosa” second edition City of Aversa. He also conducted IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA by G. Rossini in the beautiful setting of the Court Theatre of the Royal Palace of Caserta.
He has conducted many prestigious orchestras in Italy and abroad always receiving considerable success of audiences and critics.
Among the many we remember the Philharmonic Orchestra “Toscanini” in Parma, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Salerno – Teatro Verdi in Salerno, the Orchestra of the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, the Italian Youth Orchestra, the Orchestra “I Pomeriggi Musicali”, the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Theatre” F. Cilea “of Reggio Calabria, the ‘Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music” Santa Cecilia “, Orchestra” I Solisti di Napoli “, the ‘Symphony Orchestra of Valencia, Varna Symphony Orchestra, Orquesta Joven de Andalucia, Extremadura Symphony Orchestra; Symphony Orchestra of Sofia, Opera Orchestra Stara Zagora, Burgas Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra of Tirana, National Philharmonic Orchestra of Bulgaria Pazardjik.
He was assistant of M° Antonio Pappano in the review “Memorial Pappano” in Benevento preparing the Youth Orchestra of the Conservatory of Music in Benevento. He also was appointed by the Fundacion Eutherpe (Spain) as Assistant Conductor of M° Bruno Aprea with the Joven Orquesta Nacional de España 2009 (JONDE). He is currently assistant of M° Daniel Oren, preparing several opera productions in major theaters such as the Opera Bastille in Paris, Theatre du Capitole de Toulouse, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Teatro Petruzzelli, Teatro Giuseppe Verdi in Salerno and the inauguration of the 90th Arena di Verona Festival 2012.
Since 2008 he is also Music Stage Director at the Theatre “G. Verdi” in Italy for the production of LA BOHÈME, LA TRAVIATA, LA VEDOVA ALLEGRA, DON GIOVANNI and LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR, RIGOLETTO, NABUCCO, AIDA, UN BALLO IN MASCHERA, IL BARBIERE DI SIVIGLIA, L’ELISIR D’AMORE, ROMEO ET JULIETTE, I PURITANI and TOSCA, alongside great directors such as F. Zeffirelli, L.Puggelli, V. Salemme, Giancarlo Del Monaco, G. Proietti and R. Canessa and singers such as Leo Nucci, Renato Bruson, Cristina Gallardo Domas, Annick Massis, Markus Werba, Dimitra Theodossiu, Hui He, Nino Machaidze, Bruno Praticò, Franco Vassallo, Lorenzo Regazzo, Ambrogio Maestri, Martina Serafin and Marcelo Alvarez. He has conducted the Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus of Salerno Opera “G. Verdi “in Italy at the Concert for the Unification of Italy and New Year’s Concert 2012.
Recently he conducted RIGOLETTO, NABUCCO, I MASNADIERI, PAGLIACCI and GIANNI SCHICCHI for the prestigious Verdi Festival at Teatro Regio in Parma, as well as TURANDOT in Torre del Lago, RIGOLETTO in Ancona, SIMON BOCCANEGRA in Modena and Piacenza, LA TRAVIATA at the Opéra in Paris, ATTILA in Bilbao, HISTOIRE DU SOLDAT in Salerno, NABUCCO in Tel Aviv, L’ELISIR D’AMORE in Buenos Aires, LA TRAVIATA in Venice.
His future commitments include LA TRAVIATA in Teatro Regio in Torino, MADAMA BUTTERFLY in Torre del Lago and NABUCCO at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and in Las Palmas, MACBETH in Piacenza.
